This gorgeous, handcrafted piece, which comes suspended on an 18"-long Sterling silver chain, is a large pendant, measuring 47x35x15mm (1.9" x 1.4" x 0.6") and is sure to attract compliments wherever you choose to wear it. Most woolly mammoths went extinct 10,000 years ago, at the end of the Pleistocene epoch, with isolated populations persisting on St. Paul Island andWrangel Island until about 6,400 and 4,000 years ago, respectively, at which point, they disappeared completely from the face of the Earth. Most likely, climate change (& associated loss of habitat) and hunting by humans led to their extinction. People have been using mammoth tusk ivory for a variety of applications, from tools to art, ever since.
